Can someone give me some advise, about my cat?

I have a male kitten, and he is around 10 weeks old. I just caught him peeing on the couch, and he knows where the litter box is. I don't think he was scared or nervous, but he just felt like going there. To my knowledge, he was abandoned and left outside. Is there anything I can do to keep him from doing this, or is it hopeless? I really don't want to give him up, but I can't have that sort of behavior either. I would appreciate any suggestions. Serious answers are appreciated, I don't feel like any stupid responses. Thank you, in advance.

Well, it may take some time to get him really box trained and the fact that he was left outside until this age may make it more difficult. You really need to have him fixed as soon as he can be. (age wise) I'm thinking your kitten may have smelled something on your couch?? and are you sure of his age? Once a male cat starts spraying on things, he won't stop even after being fixed. Just for future info...my vet had me keep my male cats confined to one room (bathroom or laundry room) for three weeks after being fixed because I guess it takes a little time to get that out of their system. They had started spraying already but we had moved to a new house and I had them fixed before we moved in so the scent wasn't already there. Locking them up did the trick, and we've had no more problems. Good luck! Can someone give me some advise, about my cat?
is he neutred? because if not that's a good thing to do. you could try a diaper, but i really don't think that he would enjoy that too much.
How far away is the litter box? When I first got my kitten around 13 weeks... he new how to use his box, but would pee on the carpet because he JUST needed to pee and my house is freak'n huge (at least for a little kitten). THis location was on the first floor...and his litter box was upstairs. ...well the house is quite large- but for your kitten it's possibly he just doesn't know 'where' his box is and he just needed to go.

SO basically is your house pretty big? Maybe you need to place two boxes... My cat is now a year old and I only had to have two boxes set out until he was just a little bit bigger and knew the lay of the land etc.

Good luck.

Don't forget that if that's not the case, he my just have an infection.
Male cats are notorious for peeing wherever they want to. Since he was abandoned he probably has already accustomed himself to going wherever he wants. You will probably end up trading him in for one whose mother taught where to go and cover it.
if you look in the archives of yahoo answers you will find that this is probably the most asked question there is . Your cat could have a uti (urinary tract infection) which causes improper elimination, the box could be dirty so he doesn't want to use it , you could have changed something in the house (new people , pets , furniture or just moved things) changed liter box or liter or place of cat box .
it may be a couple reasons

1. his litter may be too dirty

2. your couch may have had a smell or something to it.

3. or there could be something wrong with him, and maybe you should take him to the vet.

I have a young kitten that wasn't house trained or litter boxed trained when i got him, and he's only had a few accidents it it was because he was sick and needed to be dewormed. since then i've had no problems.

Hope everything works out for you two.
As soon as he's old enough get him neutered Was he too busy playing to make it to the litter box? It also could be something he sniffed on the couch and nature took over and he covered it with his scent. Get your couch cleaned with a GOOD professional product, or you';ll have a smelly couch in no time. A cat's instinct is to cover up their waste, that's why it's easy to litter box train a cat. That's why i'm thinking he smelled something on your couch that wasn't ';his'; and he was taking back ';his own';.
