I have just bought a boat and need some advise?

All i have is a fletcher 13ft speed boat and that is it .I know i need an outboard but i have been told i need gearing what is this? and what size engine do you think i should get if we want to be able to water ski any other information will be greatly recieved.I have just bought a boat and need some advise?
ALL I HAVE OWNED ARE FLETCHERS.

i have had two fletchers that were 13 footers, and oth of them had a 30 and a 40 hp engine, and could tow a skier/doughnut.

Gearing is a load of rubbish dont listen.

Did it come with a broken engine or none at all?

and to all those people who say have ';powerboat training';, ignore them too. one of them was a sailor(they hate speedboat owners, and generally anybody who dont drink brandy in the toff club....SORRY yacht club), and the other guy is probably a speedboat driving instructor. You can learn yourself for free!!!

seriously mate, the only added extra i would pay for is insurance, not cause of theft, but because of liability when one of these toff sailors cuts you up and you smash their hulls and skulls to pieces.

Good luck dude, and happy boating!!I have just bought a boat and need some advise?
you wanna put some thing like a 60 hp on the back of that and it will plane quickly and tow a skier with ease!!!!
i dont think you ned to worry yourself about gearing we had a fletcher awile ago with just a mercury outboard on the back fine for sking etc
I'd go to http://www.fletcher-boats.co.uk/contact.鈥?/a> and contact Fletcher from there for their recommendation. I'd guess at 40hp, but take the maker's advice.

I'd also strongly recommend you take the advice on here to have some training too.

Any gearing involved is already built into the outboard.
check the capacity plate on the boat for max. horsepower rating, I would not go past 40 H.P
May I seriously recommend that you obtain full advice from an expert, and probably even more importantly - power boat training! Please don't be one of those people that just goes and buys a boat with no idea, and causes havok for everyone else...
About 40hp should do it. Go to a dealer and see what they recommned. Shop around for the best deal.
I'd say 40hp max as well. In an outboard the gearing is contained within the engine. Their should be a small plate somewhere near where the engine sits that will tell you max. recommended horsepower. Look up fletcher on the net, find the number of a dealer call them and ask.
