Is there really an opportunity to earn from home thru net, data entry of accounting job. Please advise friends

I have come across lot of web sites in the net wherein they are making tall claims about home based earnings. The amounts they mention are astronomical. But on going through the details invariably the bottom line is asking for a few (? ) dollars. Now, there are lot of people like me who have computer, e mail ID, internet connection at home, and want to spend their free time usefully and earn that extra money However the more.one browses through net the more one gets confused. But somewhere there has to be an opportunity. Where is it? For the record, I am a person with more than 30 years of accounting experience, good in MS office, proficient in oral and written English and want to earn by working from home. Most 'home based earnings' places are scams. Be very very carful and read all the details.
