I am looking to change jobs (I am presently employed) and I need a reference from someone I worked with about five years ago. I haven't been in touch since I was laid off of that job and I am not sure how to approach the person I want to request a reference from. (My layoff came because of the economic downturn from the effects of 9/11.)Can you advise me on asking for a job reference from 5 years ago after having lost touch?
Skip it and explain yourself at the interview, you can always list a manager or HR person if you absolutely need a reference from that place..
